Here at Local 709 we have a cutting-edge training facility. Our training facility is accredited with the Ironworkers International and part of the Ironworkers Welding Certification Program.
Local 709’s facility is approximately 6,400 sq. ft., with 1,100 sq. ft. committed to classroom instruction. Our curriculum has the most current technical information for the ironworking trade. Part of our training is in a classroom environment and the rest is in a hands-on environment in our shop. Our training is supervised by experienced and qualified instructors. We believe that it is highly important and take pride in developing ironworkers that will set the standard of excellence to ensure that our apprentices thrive to become the best at their craft. In return, these ironworkers will help our signatory contractors complete their projects safely, on time, and within budget. At Local 709 we are dedicated to training the safest, most productive and skilled ironworkers.
Our training center is available to all Journeyman, Journeyman Upgrades, Apprentices, Pre-Apprentices, and Welders performing Welder Qualification tests.
In our accredited American Welding Society testing facility, we have a full time American Welding Society CWI and CWE.
We instruct our welders in the following processes: SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
Our welding shop includes 14 welding stations, oxy-fuel, plasma and carbon arc cutting stations. We also have another training facility in Augusta, Georgia, where we have 9 more welding stations.
